John Gruber has uncovered some kind of supposed hypocrisy among iPhone owners who complain about Apple “fixing” “bugs” that allow jailbreaking. However, there’s no evidence that these bugs harm any iPhone owners, while removing them certainly does harm people who want to use their iPhone however they see fit. The Angry Drunk says, “Jailbreaking uses firmware and operating system exploits to get the job done. It’s technologically no different than a hacker rooting a desktop to make it part of a botnet.” but there is a technical difference between an exploit that requires physical access and one that can be done over the network.
